The China Institute of Nepal is a high-level academic platform jointly established by Beijing Language and Culture University and Lumbini Buddhist University of Nepal. It was created under the guidance of the strategic consensus reached by the heads of state of China and Nepal. The institute aims to serve the "Belt and Road" Initiative and the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind, deepening practical cooperation between the two nations in education, humanities, and culture. As a key measure in implementing the joint statement by President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Oli, the China Institute of Nepal embodies the shared aspiration of both countries to promote mutual learning between civilizations and people-to-people connectivity.
On December 30, 2024, the China Institute of Nepal was officially inaugurated at the Prime Minister's residence in Nepal. Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli personally attended the ceremony and, together with BLCU President Duan Peng, unveiled the institute, demonstrating Nepal's strong emphasis on educational cooperation. In his address, Prime Minister Oli noted that education is a vital pillar for civilizational exchange and that the establishment of the China Institute of Nepal will serve as a key platform for promoting understanding, friendship, and cooperation between the two countries.
As a significant part of BLCU's strategic presence in South Asia, the institute focuses on research on China's national conditions, the promotion of Chinese language education, and exchange and mutual learning between civilizations. It is committed to becoming a leading center for China studies with regional influence. Through joint research, talent cultivation, and cultural dissemination, the institute will inject sustained momentum into China-Nepal relations and contribute wisdom and strength to cultural exchange in Asia and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
