The China Research Institute is a high-level international research platform being jointly established by Beijing Language and Culture University and the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences-Ecuador (FLACSO-Ecuador). It is designed to serve China's major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics in the new era, implement the "Belt and Road" Initiative, and deepen comprehensive cooperation between China and Latin American countries in the humanities, academia, and education. The establishment of this institute signifies a major expansion of BLCU's China studies presence in Latin America and is another important step toward fostering deeper understanding and equal dialogue between China and the countries of the Global South.
BLCU President Duan Peng and FLACSO-Ecuador Director Gioconda Herrera have agreed to build upon a foundation of China studies to launch long-term, systematic, and multi-dimensional cooperation on key issues such as East Asian studies, international organizations, global governance, language, culture, and social development. The goal is to create a model platform for joint academic development and mutual cultural learning between China and Latin America.
In the future, the China Research Institute will leverage the high-quality think-tank resources and top-tier talent of both institutions. It will focus on research on China's national conditions, policy interpretation, language and cultural dissemination, and the cultivation of young leaders, providing professional support for Latin American countries to better understand China's path, system, and experience. The institute will be dedicated to constructing discourse and knowledge systems based on equality, mutual learning, and win-win collaboration between China and Latin America, promoting a global community of shared future in the humanities, and contributing Chinese wisdom and a Latin American perspective to world peace and development.
