The China Institute of Peru was jointly established by Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) and Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola (USIL) of Peru. It was officially inaugurated on November 14, 2024, during the opening ceremony of the APEC Education Forum held in Lima. Witnessed by political leaders, scholars, and envoys from multiple countries, BLCU President Duan Peng and Mr. Raúl Diez Canseco Terry, former Vice President of Peru and founder of USIL, signed a cooperation agreement. They were joined by Mr. Eduardo Salhuana, President of the Congress of Peru, and Ms. Luciana de la Fuente, Executive Director of USIL, to unveil the institute, marking a solid step forward in educational, cultural, and think-tank cooperation between China and Peru.

As the first comprehensive platform established overseas by BLCU that integrates a think tank with teaching and research, the Peru-China Institute is dedicated to serving the construction of a China-Peru and, by extension, a China-Latin America community with a shared future. It focuses on conducting research and providing high-quality policy recommendations and intellectual support in key areas such as economic policy, Chinese language education, academic exchange, and mutual learning between civilizations. Through the publication of policy reports, the hosting of high-level forums, and the building of international cooperation mechanisms, the institute will promote mutual benefits and win-win outcomes for both sides under the framework of the Global Development Initiative and South-South cooperation.

The institute operates under a joint council mechanism, leveraging the high-quality resources of both universities. It aims to align the experiences of Chinese modernization with Peru's national development needs, contributing Chinese wisdom and a Latin American perspective to the modernization processes of countries in the Global South. It is poised to become a vital link for people-to-people exchanges and strategic collaboration between China and Peru.
