The "International Communication Research Center, China Federation of Radio and Television Associations" (International Communication Research Center, CFRTA) was established in December 2023. It is a research platform affiliated with the National Radio and Television Administration. Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) serves as the host institution for the Center, with its secretariat located at the School of International Relations and Communication at BLCU. Professor Duan Peng, President of Beijing Language and Culture University, serves as the Director of the Center and the Chairman of its Academic Committee.
The International Communication Research Center is dedicated to constructing China's discourse and narrative systems, telling China's stories well, effectively communicating China's voice, and presenting a credible, amiable, and respectable image of China to enhance the reach and influence of Chinese civilization. The Center closely monitors the developmental trends and innovations in the theory and practice of international communication. Leveraging the flourishing development of education for international students in China and the growing global interest in Sinology and China studies, the Center researches the principles for strengthening China's international communication capacity, following the path of "people-to-people connectivity" within the process of building a "community with a shared future for mankind."
Capitalizing on the international advantages of Beijing Language and Culture University, the Research Center focuses on addressing a series of key issues in international communication, such as communication effectiveness, audience reach, and overseas reception. Through research in journalism and communication, it focuses on the trends of public opinion towards China in different countries and cultures, seeking to perceive the public sentiment in specific nations. The Center also studies multimodal and diverse forms of international communication, utilizing various research tools and methods to identify country-specific strategies ("one country, one policy") for international communication to achieve precise and targeted dissemination.
