The Hong Kong and Macao Research Center was established in March 2021 as a Ministry of Education country and regional studies filing center. As one of the first Ministry of Education country and regional research centers dedicated to the study of Hong Kong and Macao, the Hong Kong and Macao Research Center is committed to serving national strategies, promoting the integrated development of theoretical research, policy consultation, talent cultivation, and resource platforms. It aims to build an open platform for exchanges and cooperation between the mainland and Hong Kong and Macao, advance research on governance and cultural exchanges in Hong Kong and Macao, and provide policy consultation and academic support for the long-term adherence to the "one country, two systems" principle.
The Hong Kong and Macao Research Center is dedicated to providing policy consulting services and building a high-end think tank for policy research and decision-making consultation on "One Country, Two Systems" and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It takes cultural and educational exchanges as its mission to create a high-level talent cultivation base for Hong Kong, Macao, and international engagement. With a core focus on promoting the integrated development of Hong Kong, Macao, and the mainland, it serves as an open platform for high-level exchanges and cooperation between the mainland and Hong Kong and Macao. Leveraging language as its unique perspective and strength, the center utilizes Beijing Language and Culture University’s human and academic resources to establish itself as a leading academic hub and experiential base for research on the social culture and linguistic life of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, both domestically and internationally.
The Hong Kong and Macao Research Center maintains close collaboration with institutions such as the Hong Kong and Macao Research Institute of the Development Research Center of the State Council, the Mainland-Hong Kong and Macao Economic and Trade Exchange Promotion Association, the China Academic Research Institute of Hong Kong, and the Macao Development Strategy Research Center. Together, they engage in scientific research and academic exchanges. In late 2023, they co-hosted the inaugural Hong Kong and Macao Development and Innovation Academic Forum on "Education, Science and Technology, and Talent." The Center has also appointed numerous experts and scholars in Hong Kong and Macao affairs from both within and outside the university to serve as advisors and as mentors for national education for students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.
