The Secretariat of the Working Group for the Construction of the Chinese Language and Writing Digital Museum (hereinafter referred to as the Secretariat) was established in March 2022. It is an entity set up by Beijing Language and Culture University under the commission of the Ministry of Education and the National Language Commission. The Secretary-General is the President of Beijing Language and Culture University.
The Secretariat is primarily responsible for the overall planning and coordination of the China Language and Writing Digital Museum (hereinafter referred to as the Language Museum), liaising with relevant universities and institutions to integrate resources, and carrying out scientific research, social education, and other tasks related to the construction of the Language Museum as entrusted by the Department of Language Application and Administration under the Ministry of Education.
As an important component of the national smart education platform, the Language Museum of China (YUBO) is dedicated to two core missions: preserving linguistic and cultural heritage and promoting lifelong learning for all. It primarily serves teachers and students, especially young learners, while also catering to the general public. Based on the characteristics of language and its cultural features, YUBO is divided into eight sections—Language Profile, Evolution, Classical Heritage, YUBO Book House, YUBO Academy, Language Intelligence, Thematic Exhibitions, and Events & Competitions—as well as four resource modules: Database, Audiovisual Hall, Thematic Hall, and Interactive Experience Hall. By digitally integrating outstanding Chinese language and cultural resources in a systematic manner, YUBO strives to become a comprehensive "four-in-one" application service platform: a cluster and sharing platform for language and cultural resources; a learning and research platform for the national common language and script as well as outstanding Chinese language and culture; a participation and interaction platform for language and cultural brand activities; and a reading enhancement platform that encourages the public to love, read, and benefit from quality books.
