The Capital International Culture Research Base is a research base for philosophy and social sciences in Beijing, established under the auspices of Beijing Language and Culture University. Officially founded in November 2008, it operates as a research platform jointly guided by the Beijing Municipal Education Commission and the Beijing Municipal Social Science Planning Office, with direct leadership from Beijing Language and Culture University.
The research base aims to address the developmental needs of Beijing's "Four Centers" initiative, particularly the "International Exchange Center." Building upon BLCU's extensive experience in the international dissemination of Chinese language and culture, it leverages the base's mechanism for integrating and leading the university's academic resources. It bridges the disciplines of traditional Sinology and overseas Chinese studies, balances academic research with think tank consultancy, and focuses on the mutual exchange of civilizations through "Western learning spreading eastward" and "Chinese learning spreading westward." The base is dedicated to the study of both tangible and intangible "Beijing-style" culture, explores the rich possibilities of constructing a "new Beijing-style" culture, and implements an integrated approach encompassing theoretical interpretation, social research, academic exchange, information services, and talent cultivation.
The research center houses several academic institutions, including the editorial offices of *Chinese Culture Research* and *Sinology Research*. Researchers at the center have undertaken multiple major projects funded by the National Social Science Fund and key research initiatives under the Ministry of Education, yielding substantial results. Their academic papers, published in authoritative journals, have received positive feedback from central leaders and officials of relevant ministries and commissions, reflecting a strong alignment between academic research and policy advisory functions. Additionally, their scholarly monographs have been included in the *National Achievements Library of Philosophy and Social Sciences*, demonstrating their leading position at the forefront of academic research.
Looking ahead, the research base aims to better serve the national and capital development strategies, striving to tell China’s stories well and enhance the international communication capacity of Chinese culture. It will continue to play a leading role in the creative transformation and innovative development of Chinese culture, building itself into a nationally renowned academic hub for Chinese literature and culture with distinctive features of Beijing Language and Culture University, as well as a specialized think tank serving the national cultural strategy and the development of Beijing as an international cultural exchange center. To this end, the base will comprehensively elevate the level of talent cultivation and discipline development, focusing on the innovative interpretation and international communication of Chinese culture. It will refine the primary direction for constructing a symbolic system of Chinese civilization, with the goal of building a community with a shared future for humanity, thereby enhancing the base’s comprehensive influence in promoting mutual learning among civilizations.
