The Beijing Research Base for Documentary Language and Cultural Heritage was established in October 2017 as a philosophy and social sciences research platform supported by the Beijing Municipal Education Commission and the Beijing Municipal Social Science Planning Office, and hosted by Beijing Language and Culture University. The research base conducts scientific research and social services in alignment with major national cultural strategies. Focusing on the study of documentary language and cultural heritage, it leverages high-level research team development and the cultivation of talent at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels to advance the construction of an independent knowledge system for philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics, while empowering regional and societal cultural services. Centered on the theme of documentary language and cultural heritage, the base fully integrates research resources both within and outside the university to carry out scientific research, talent cultivation, information and data development, policy advisory services, and academic exchanges. It provides theoretical support and think-tank assistance to promote the greater development and prosperity of the cultural sphere in the capital.
The research base is headed by Professor Hua Xuecheng as the chief expert. It currently has 14 full-time researchers and over 80 master's students, doctoral candidates, and postdoctoral fellows. The team is engaged in nearly 20 national and provincial-level research projects, including the National Social Science Fund's Team Project on Rare and Endangered Disciplines, major projects, key projects, as well as initiatives from the Ministry of Education and the Beijing Municipal Government. The disciplinary team has been selected for the first batch of the Chinese Academy of History's "Endangered Disciplines" Support Program. In December 2018, the research base was included in the China Think Tank Index (CTTI) as a source think tank. The academic journal *Documentary Linguistics*, published by the base, has been consistently selected as a source journal for the Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (CSSCI) and the Core Journal of Chinese Humanities and Social Sciences (AMI).
