The Center for Translation and Intercultural Communication of Chinese Culture was established on May 20, 2019. It is a collaborative platform between the former Ministry of Culture and Beijing Language and Culture University, serving as a talent database for Chinese and foreign sinologists and translators, as well as a platform for cultural exchange and translation cooperation. The center is responsible for the long-term operation of the national project, the China Cultural Translation and Studies Network.
The center has cumulatively recruited 5,012 individual members, including outstanding sinologists and translators, among whom 2,103 are Chinese members and 2,909 are foreign members from 100 countries or regions. It possesses the capability to translate and introduce works in 63 languages, having facilitated the translation of 156 literary works and the overseas distribution of 94 works. Additionally, it has engaged 2,030 Chinese and international institutions dedicated to creating, translating, and disseminating Chinese cultural works. The center has promoted 5,210 outstanding Chinese cultural works, spanning literature, film and television, art, cultural relics and museums, and academia. It has published 5,090 multilingual news items, totaling over 7 million words, covering topics such as national translation funding projects, work promotions, industry updates, and translation projects. It has also produced 207 promotional videos, event recordings, and exclusive interviews. Furthermore, the center has organized hundreds of academic exchange events, including seminars on literary publishing and translation for Chinese and foreign participants, advanced training programs for film and television translators, the Young Sinologists Training Program, BIBF-CCTSS Translation Cafés, the BLCU Special Contribution to Chinese Books Award Symposium, and the "Reading China" (China Readers’ Club, or CRC) brand salons.
The center has established 15 language and country-specific committees, including English, French, Spanish, Arabic, and Russian, each composed of authoritative Chinese and foreign experts, as well as six industry-specific committees in fields such as literary publishing, film and television, arts, and academia, also formed by authoritative Chinese and foreign experts. It edits and publishes two academic journals, the Journal of East Asian Cultures and Han Feng, and is responsible for the compilation and translation of the "Encyclopedia of Chinese Culture" in multiple languages.
