The Key Laboratory of Language Cognitive Science, Ministry of Education (Beijing Language and Culture University), approved for establishment in April 2023, is the first key laboratory under the Ministry of Education to be established at Beijing Language and Culture University. The laboratory integrates three distinctive secondary disciplines of the university—"Language Cognitive Science," "Language Pathology," and "Language Intelligence and Technology"—with "Cognitive Neuroscience," forming three comprehensive interdisciplinary research areas: "Language Cognitive Neuroscience," "Language Pathology and Cognitive Neuroscience," and "Language Intelligence and Brain-Like Research." The laboratory currently has over 50 full-time and part-time researchers, who have published more than 100 high-level academic papers in recent years. It has secured multiple research grants, including those from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Social Science Fund of China, and the Beijing Natural Science Foundation, and has successfully commercialized two patents.
Researchers at the laboratory actively contribute to the curriculum development and talent cultivation of undergraduate programs such as Psychology and Hearing and Speech Rehabilitation, with all members participating in undergraduate teaching. As graduate advisors, laboratory members have supervised over 50 master's and doctoral students in fields such as Language Cognitive Science, Basic Psychology, Language Pathology, and Language Intelligence and Technology. These students have published more than 20 papers as first authors, and many have received the Beijing Outstanding Graduate award.
Through open research projects, the laboratory has funded several cutting-edge initiatives, including explorations into the cognitive mechanisms of second language acquisition, brain-computer interaction mechanisms in language processing, and brain region identification for language disorders, thereby promoting interdisciplinary research across computer science, psychology, linguistics, and medicine.
Each year, the laboratory engages with local communities by offering volunteer services such as hearing screenings for elderly residents, providing them with scientific knowledge on age-related hearing loss and intervention methods. Additionally, laboratory members frequently serve as experts to deliver科普 lectures for parents of children with developmental disorders such as hearing impairment, autism, and developmental delays, ensuring that cutting-edge research in language cognitive science meets societal needs.
