Studies in Prosodic Grammar is an academic journal published by Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) and managed by BLCU’s Zhang-Huang Academic Theory Institute. It is the only academic publication dedicated exclusively to the study of prosodic grammar. The current co-editors-in-chief are Professors Shengli Feng and Qiuwu Ma.
Founded in 2016 (initially titled Prosodic Studies for its first volume, renamed Studies in Prosodic Grammar from the second volume onward), the journal is published biannually. Articles are written in Chinese and English and are indexed in databases such as CNKI and VIP. Since 2016, Studies in Prosodic Grammar has published nine volumes, totaling 12 issues.
The journal focuses not only on prosody, prosodic morphology, and prosodic syntax but also on prosodic phenomena in other domains, such as prosodic poetics, prosodic stylistics, prosodic literature, prosody and music, and the acquisition and teaching of prosodic grammar. Published articles emphasize new materials, novel insights, clear arguments, and rigorous reasoning. The journal features columns including academic papers, materials and perspectives, book reviews, and academic event information.
The Zhang-Huang Academic Theory Institute supports the journal’s development through high-quality academic activities, such as the annual “International Symposium on Prosodic Grammar Studies,” the biennial “Journal of Chinese Linguistics Editorial Board Meeting,” and BLCU’s “Prosodic Stylistics and Cutting-Edge Methodologies Talent Introduction Project.” Additionally, the institute shares and engages with the academic community on the journal’s published works through its WeChat Official Account, “Zhang-Huang Academic Theory.”
