On the evening of March 13, the first lecture of the 2026 "Wutong Academic Development Forum" was held at Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU). Guest speaker Professor Feng Zhongping, director of the Institute of European Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, delivered a lecture titled “Europe in Turmoil”. The lecture was moderated by Huang Shiquan, deputy director of the Office of Development Planning and Discipline Construction of BLCU, attracting over 200 students from various faculties within the university.

In the lecture, Professor Feng began by discussing the development of post-war European integration, systematically explaining the formation and evolution of the European Union as a unique international actor. He provided an in-depth analysis of the structural economic, political, and security challenges currently faced by Europe. Addressing real-world issues such as the changes of transatlantic relations, he interpreted the practical problems and choices Europe encounters within a complex international landscape. He analyzed the historical evolution, current positioning, and future direction of China-Europe relations, emphasizing that China and Europe should deepen cooperation based on strategic mutual trust, properly manage differences, and jointly tackle global challenges.

During the Q&A session, students actively asked questions regarding the roles of the US and Europe in international events and the prospects of China-Europe relations. Professor Feng provided insightful answers drawing on his extensive research, creating a vibrant atmosphere for academic exchange.

In the future, the forum will continue to invite renowned experts in the field of country and area studies to give lectures at the university, aiming to establish a high-level academic exchange platform, broaden the academic horizons of teachers and students, and foster a richer academic atmosphere on campus.
