Beijing Language and Culture University Hosts Commemoration of Persian Poet Nezami Ganjavi

On March 12, the Persian Program of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Cultures at Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU), together with the Cultural Section of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in China, co-hosted the “Nezami Ganjavi Commemoration” event. Attendees included Mr. Ne’matollah Iranzadeh, Cultural Counselor of the Iranian Embassy, along with a delegation of Iranian diplomats, faculty and students from BLCU’s Persian Program, and representatives from Persian programs at Peking University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, the University of International Business and Economics, and Beijing International Studies University.

Professor Yang Jun, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Cultures at BLCU, delivered the opening remarks, introducing the Faculty’s academic profile and distinctive features. Following this, Professor Wang Zezhuang, Director of BLCU’s Iranian Studies Center, highlighted the significance of Sino-Iranian cultural exchanges, noting that both nations, as ancient civilizations, should further strengthen collaboration in the fields of culture and the arts.

During the student performance segment, He Lexing, a fourth-year student in BLCU’s Persian Program, delivered a heartfelt rendition of a song derived from Nezami’s narrative poem Khosrow and Shirin, earning widespread acclaim from the audience. Zhang Mingyu created a Persian calligraphy piece inspired by the same poem and presented it as a gift to the Embassy of Iran in China. In addition, students from partner universities presented poetry readings of Nezami’s renowned works, along with other performances.

Following the student performances, Mr. Ne’matollah Iranzadeh, Cultural Counselor of the Embassy of Iran in China, gifted the university a newly published Chinese translation of The Complete Works of Nezami, which features a handwritten inscription by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the opening page.

The event provided a stage for Persian Program students from various universities in Beijing to demonstrate their language skills, and enhance their linguistic competence and cultural appreciation, It also served as a vivid reflection of the growing influence of BLCU’s Persian Program. Committed to fostering friendly exchanges between China and Iran, BLCU continues to make steady progress .
