The Secretariat for Country and Regional Studies in Higher Education Institutions was established in 2017. It serves as the operational hub for nearly 200 higher education institutions across the country, encompassing over 400 cultivation bases and registered centers, as well as more than 10,000 researchers. The Secretariat undertakes the honorable mission of leading the high-quality development of country and regional studies in China's higher education institutions.

In recent years, under the guidance of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange of the Ministry of Education, the Secretariat has focused on strengthening policy direction and deepening academic guidance, striving to align national practical needs with the inherent logic of research work. Emphasis has been placed on advancing the disciplinary system development, academic foundation building, and talent team construction of university cultivation bases and registered centers, further consolidating the foundation for development. Efforts have been made to coordinate tasks and provide daily guidance, while also striving to create branded conferences, such as the annual conference of the University Alliance for Talent Development and Discipline Construction in Regional and Country Studies, which has been held for six consecutive years.
