The Research Institute of International Chinese Language Education (RIICLE), Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU), is a Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences under the Ministry of Education, established in September 2000. In 2025, the institute will focus on serving national strategies and conduct organized research to address major theoretical and practical challenges in the development of international Chinese language education and its disciplinary construction.
The research center currently has 17 full-time researchers, including 14 with senior professional titles and 3 with intermediate titles. It comprises the International Chinese Language Education Language Research Center, the International Chinese Language Education Application Research Center, the International Chinese Language Education Development Research Center, the International Chinese Language Education Digitalization Research Center, and the editorial office of the journal "Chinese Teaching in the World."
The International Chinese Language Education Research Center is guided by the principles of "focusing on key research areas, integrating academic strengths, enhancing collaborative research, and aligning with national needs." It actively produces more forward-looking, pioneering, and interdisciplinary high-level achievements to better serve national strategies and meet the demands for Chinese language education worldwide.
To promote the development of international Chinese language education and academic exchange, the International Chinese Language Education Research Institute organizes various academic conferences each year, including the International Chinese Language Education Academic Symposium, the International Chinese Language Education Think Tank Forum, the Young Scholars Forum of "Chinese Teaching in the World," and the Academic Symposium on Chinese for Specific Purposes. Among these, the International Chinese Language Education Academic Symposium series has been held for over 20 consecutive years, making it one of the longest-running, most professional, and largest-scale academic conferences in the field.
