The Joint Research Institute for the International Communication of Language and Culture (MOE), led by Beijing Language and Culture University, was officially launched in July 2024. Supported by the Ministry of Education, it is a provincial-ministerial-level academic platform dedicated to the international communication of language and culture. This platform integrates high-quality resources from Beijing Language and Culture University and multiple domestic universities, research institutions, and think tanks. With the mission of serving the capacity building of international communication and enhancing its effectiveness, it aims to create a multifunctional, integrated innovation platform for the internationalization of higher education practices.
The Joint Institute for International Communication of Language and Culture focuses on key tasks such as disciplinary development, talent cultivation, scientific research, think tank services, international exchanges, and data resource development, aiming to construct an international communication knowledge system with Chinese characteristics, Chinese style, and Chinese ethos. Building on the interdisciplinary integration of Chinese Language and Literature, Foreign Languages and Literatures, Area Studies, Sinology and China Studies, and Journalism and Communication, the platform strengthens comprehensive research in "language + culture + communication" to promote mutual learning among civilizations in the new era. Leveraging research bases authorized by the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Ministry of Education, among other ministries, the platform undertakes national-level advisory services, organizes research on cutting-edge issues in international communication, and develops core publications such as "Area and Country Studies." Relying on the high-end talent base of the "Wutong Class" and the "Chinese and International Students Learning Together" education system, the platform establishes an integrated undergraduate-master-doctoral program and an international joint training mechanism to cultivate interdisciplinary talents in international communication with global competence and cultural subjectivity.
The Joint Institute for International Communication of Language and Culture leverages the university’s established overseas campuses, Confucius Institutes, and platforms such as the Phoenix Tree Publishing House to actively host high-end forums and develop open, shared data resources. These efforts contribute to promoting Chinese language and culture globally, enhancing the nation’s cultural soft power, and fostering the building of a shared future for humanity.
