Chinese Studies is an academic journal published by Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU), founded and edited by Professor Chunde Yan. Issued biannually with each volume containing 650,000 words, Chinese Studies is a leading publication dedicated to international Sinology and its research. It serves as a vital bridge and platform for academic exchange, presenting cutting-edge research to scholars worldwide.

Founded in 1995, Chinese Studies was the first academic journal in China focused on Sinology research. Over three decades, it has brought together Sinologists from various countries, prominent Chinese scholars, and a new generation of researchers, forming a dynamic research community spanning senior, mid-career, and young scholars. In 2014, it was included as a Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (CSSCI) source journal, and in 2022, it was recognized as a Core Journal in the AMI Comprehensive Evaluation of Chinese Humanities and Social Sciences Journals. Marking its 30th anniversary in 2025, Chinese Studies has published 38 volumes, totaling over 20 million words of academic output. Widely acclaimed by researchers globally, it is collected by major university libraries in China and abroad.

Organized by country and region, Chinese Studies features over 30 columns, including “French Sinology,” “Russian Sinology,” “American Sinology,” “Canadian Sinology,” “Japanese Sinology (Chinese Studies),” “South Asian Sinology,” “African Sinology,” and “Chinese Language Education Dissemination and Research.”

Keeping pace with the times, Chinese Studies aligns with China’s strategy of promoting Chinese culture globally and responds to the national call to support the establishment of overseas Chinese academic research centers. The journal is committed to publishing research by Sinologists and scholars from universities, research institutes, and organizations worldwide on the global dissemination of Chinese culture over millennia and the academic contributions of countless Sinologists. It strives to enhance its influence, balancing documentary and academic excellence, to drive the sustained development of Chinese culture and its global outreach.
