Language Teaching and Linguistic Studies is a professional academic journal supervised by the Ministry of Education of China and published by Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU). Its mission is to “advance scholarship, strengthen disciplines, promote professional development, and serve society.” The journal upholds rigorous scientific standards and a commitment to truth, balancing tradition with innovation, publishing outstanding research, leading academic discourse, and nurturing exceptional talent. The current editor-in-chief is Professor Chunhong Shi.
Founded in 1979, Language Teaching and Linguistic Studies is China’s first academic journal dedicated to Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (TCSOL, or International Chinese Education). Guided by a pragmatic and innovative editorial philosophy, it has become one of the most significant journals in linguistics and applied linguistics. It is indexed in the Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (CSSCI) and has been consistently recognized as one of “China’s Most Internationally Influential Academic Journals (Humanities and Social Sciences).” The journal is also included in the Core Journal Catalogue for International Chinese Education (2025 Edition). Its flagship column, “Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages,” has been selected for the Ministry of Education’s “Distinguished Column Development” support program for university journals in philosophy and social sciences. According to the Annual Report on the Impact Factor of Chinese Academic Journals, the journal consistently ranks among the top in the “Linguistics” category.
Language Teaching and Linguistic Studies is committed to academic leadership, fostering platforms such as the “International Symposium on Language Teaching and Linguistic Studies” and the “Young Scholars Forum on Language Teaching and Linguistic Studies,” as well as establishing the “Young Talent Award for Language Teaching and Linguistic Studies.” These initiatives build an academic brand, promote international scholarly exchange, and amplify Chinese academic voices globally. The journal also prioritizes digital development, creating an integrated “website and WeChat” platform to drive innovation and synergy between traditional publishing and new media.
