BEIJING,Feb.10,2026 — On the evening of February 6, the Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) campus was filled with the exotic rhythms of traditional Sri Lankan dance. To celebrate Sri Lanka's 78th Independence Day and the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and China, the Sri Lankan Embassy in Beijing invited the world-renowned Channa-Upuli Dance Company to perform at BLCU.Sri Lankan Ambassador to China, H.E. Majintha Jayesinghe, and BLCU Vice President Zhang Baojun joined over 100 students and faculty members for the cultural event.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Jayesinghe thanked BLCU for hosting the celebration. "It holds special significance to celebrate our Independence Day at BLCU an institution that values international dialogue and cultural exchange," he said. He express his hope that dance would serve as a bridge to bring the people of Sri Lanka and China closer together.

Vice President Zhang Baojun welcomed the Ambassador and the artists, noting the long-standing friendship between the two countries. "BLCU is committed to mutual learning among civilizations. Many of our Sri Lankan alumni have become young envoys of this friendship," he stated.



The Dance Company then took the stage. As Sri Lanka's premier professional dance troupe, the artists delivered a stunning performance. Through their exquisite choreography and vibrant energy, they brought to life the unique history, culture, and customs of the island nation.

The event offered BLCU students and faculty a rare opportunity to experience the charm of Sri Lankan traditional art up close, adding new energy to the people-to-people connections between China and Sri Lanka.
