BLCU News, March 19 (Correspondent Wang Nana, Photographer Wei Da) – On the morning of March 18, President Duan Peng met with Honduran Ambassador to China Salvador Moncada and a delegation from Francisco Morazán National Pedagogical University led by Rector Lexi Concepción Medina Mejía.
President Duan Peng extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Moncada and the rector on behalf of Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU), providing a detailed introduction to the university's history and distinctive features. He stated that BLCU is a key university directly under the Chinese Ministry of Education. Over its 63 years since founding, it has trained 300,000 international alumni proficient in Chinese and familiar with Chinese culture. Currently, the main campus, Hainan International College, and the three overseas branches in Kazakhstan, Thailand, and Japan have a total of 11,000 international students enrolled. As a vital window for China's international language education and cultural exchanges, BLCU operates 27 Confucius Institutes (Classrooms), with the Confucius Institute at the University of Havana in Cuba recognized as one of the world's best. Additionally, BLCU has established China Research Centers in Peru and Nepal, representing significant initiatives in promoting mutual learning among civilizations between China and the world.
Ambassador Moncada expressed gratitude for President Duan Peng's warm reception, noting that cooperation between the two countries in economic, trade, and scientific fields has yielded fruitful results, with broad prospects for cultural and educational collaboration. Deep exchanges between the civilizations of both nations require closer cultural interactions at the grassroots level, with language serving as the most vibrant carrier of exchange. The establishment of Confucius Institutes exemplifies outstanding achievements in language and cultural exchanges, and the embassy will continue to provide support. He also hoped that more young Honduran talent will come to China to study Chinese in the future.
Subsequently, the Rector of Francisco Morazán National Pedagogical University and Director Xu Baofeng of BLCU's Center for World Sinology introduced their respective institutions. Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on the possibilities of cooperating to establish a Sinology Center.
Officials from the Honduran Ministry of Foreign Affairs' China Affairs Project, the embassy in China, and Francisco Morazán National Pedagogical University, along with heads from BLCU's Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, Confucius Institute Office, School of Teacher Education, and Latin American Research Center, participated in the meeting.
