Introduction to the Lao She Research Association of China
China Lao She Research Association (Society Of Lao She Studies, SLSS)
The Lao She Research Association of China currently has more than 300 members, all of whom are scholars engaged in the study of Lao She, primarily from domestic academic research institutions and higher education establishments.
Since its establishment in 1984, the Lao She Research Association of China has organized its members to engage in practical academic exchanges. It has successively held nine large-scale international academic conferences focused on Lao She studies, along with 25 other academic events of varying scales dedicated to the research of Lao She. These activities have delved into in-depth discussions on topics such as Lao She and Chinese culture, Lao She and world culture, Lao She and national traditions, Lao She and 20th-century Chinese literature, Lao She and the War of Resistance Against Japan, Lao She and Beijing culture, as well as adaptations of Lao She's works. Outstanding papers from these conferences have often been compiled and officially published by national and provincial publishing houses. Individually, members of the association have published over 30 academic works on Lao She research. These achievements have had a positive impact on academic circles both domestically and internationally, driving the in-depth development of Lao She studies and fostering the growth of several generations of Lao She researchers—senior, middle-aged, and young. Many members have undertaken national and provincial-level research projects on Lao She, offering courses on Lao She studies at universities and supervising degree theses related to Lao She research. Seven experts from the association were invited by China Central Television and the China Modern Literature Museum to deliver a series of nine lectures on Lao She studies for the CCTV program "Lecture Room." Members have also given academic lectures on Lao She studies at university forums and libraries, while offering multi-level lectures on the subject through new media platforms such as Chinese university open courses,三联中读 (Sanlian Zhongdu), and Beijing News Radio. All these efforts have contributed to the flourishing of academic research.
The Lao She Research Association of China has established close academic ties with the Lao She Research Association of Japan and hundreds of Lao She researchers from Russia, Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, South Korea, Singapore, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, and other parts of the world. As a result, research on Lao She in China has gained extensive influence in the global Sinology community, effectively promoting the dissemination of Chinese culture worldwide, strengthening international cultural exchanges, and fostering mutual learning between Eastern and Western civilizations.
