Release time: 2026-03-27 News source:

Recently, An Introduction to Sinology, edited by Professor Xu Baofeng—Director of the World Sinology Center and Dean of the College of Sinology and Chinese Studies (Belt and Road Research Institute) at Beijing Language and Culture University—and supported by the Beijing Innovation Center for Discourse Competence in World Sinology, has been selected for inclusion in the 2025 List of Key Publication Topics for the Ministry of Education’s Thematic Publishing.

The book An Introduction to Sinology is regarded as an academic work that systematically clarifies the evolution and development of Sinology. The book is divided into three sections, each discussing Sinology from various dimensions. The first section emphasizes strengthening Sinology’s theoretical foundation, summarizing its definitions, forms, and historical trajectories, while clarifying its academic categories and research traditions. The second section shifts the focus to the knowledge structure and analysis of texts, examining the traditional knowledge spectrum of Sinology and its reflection within Chinese Studies, thereby analyzing the linguistic context and actual influence of Sinology. Building on the first two sections, the third section further explores regional mobility and contemporary transformations in the field of Sinology. It traces the shifting centers of Sinology in Europe, America, and China, while also examining translation and podcasting in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative, revealing the expansion and evolution of its research formats.

This series is part of the Academic Monograph Series of Beijing Language and Culture University: Area and Country Studies, edited by Professor Duan Peng, President of Beijing Language and Culture University. Two subseries—one on Chinese language and literature, and the other on area and country studies—are scheduled for publication in 2025. They will showcase recent works by 25 outstanding young and middle-aged backbone scholars from Beijing Language and Culture University.
