Release time: 2024-11-22 News source:

To support the development of our university's Hainan International College, enhance international students' language practical abilities, and deepen their understanding of China's national conditions and culture, from October 28 to November 8, the School of Applied Chinese organized 108 undergraduate and intensive Chinese program students from 29 countries for a 12-day study tour in Hainan. Department leaders and teachers led the team.

Under the school's meticulous organization, the study tour group utilized the advanced educational facilities and support systems at Hainan International College, adopting a dual-track online and offline teaching approach to complete over 20 courses, including Advanced Mathematics and Business Negotiation. The students immersed themselves in the beautiful campus environment and convenient living facilities at Hainan International College. In their spare time, they interacted with Chinese students, staff from other institutions in the education park, and nearby villagers, achieving the goal of combining learning with practice and enriching the international atmosphere of the education park.

In addition to academic courses, the study tour included a rich array of cultural study and social practice activities.

At the Betel Nut Valley Li Village, the students enthusiastically interacted with Li ethnic brothers and sisters, learning about the historical inheritance and customs of Li and Miao cultures, understanding China's policy of great ethnic unity, appreciating intangible cultural heritage techniques such as traditional Li spinning, dyeing, weaving, and embroidery, and experiencing firsthand how the once remote Li villages have embarked on a path of characteristic development toward prosperity and happiness through rural revitalization policies. Seeing several octogenarian Li grandmothers still skillfully weaving Li brocade, the students were amazed. They then personally experienced the fiery Li ethnic medicinal ointments and tasted the Li family specialty "bamboo basket meal," allowing the students to feel the unique charm of China's minority ethnic cultures.

The Danjia Museum led the students into another unique historical and cultural world—the Danjia people's "boat as home" maritime culture. The students learned in detail about the history and maritime boundaries of the South China Sea, deeply moved by the Danjia people's indomitable, diligent, and brave ethnic spirit and survival wisdom, and truly experiencing the charm and inclusivity of Hainan's diverse cultures.

At Xinglong Tropical Botanical Garden, the students stepped into a magical green world, shuttling through dense tropical rainforests, observing various rare tropical plants up close, and listening to the guide explain the characteristics and uses of the plants. Every leaf and flower here exudes the vitality of life, allowing the students to deeply feel the magic and charm of nature. The students not only learned a lot about tropical plants but also understood Hainan's green development path in planting rich economic crops such as coffee and pepper.

The study tour group also organized the students to visit the provincial capital Haikou, touring sites such as the Hairui Memorial Hall, Hainan Museum, Yundong Library, and Qilou Old Street. At the Hairui Memorial Hall, the students learned in detail about Hairui's life story, political ideals, and integrity spirit. The teachers on site explained the historical inheritance and new-era connotations of China's "integrity culture," with the upright, incorruptible, unyielding, and people-oriented integrity spirit represented by "Hai Qingtian" moving the international students from various countries. At Qilou Old Street, the students wandered in groups through the ancient buildings with Southeast Asian styles, as if listening to Haikou's past and present over more than 100 years, engaging in deep dialogues with China's traditional culture and modern civilization.
