Party Secretary Ni Haidong Leads Delegation on a Visit to Three Latin American Countries

Recently, a delegation led by Ni Haidong, Party Secretary of Beijing Language and Culture University, visited Mexico, Peru, and Ecuador. The visit focused on international Chinese language education, area and country studies, high-level talent cultivation, and youth exchange. During the visit, the delegation met with universities, research institutions, Confucius Institutes, and Chinese enterprises, and also held working exchanges with Chinese embassies in these countries, further expanding the university’s cooperation network in Latin America.

In Mexico, the delegation visited El Colegio de México, the National Autonomous University of Mexico, and Universidad Veracruzana. Both sides conducted in-depth discussions on international Chinese language education, regional studies, curriculum development, teacher training, and youth exchange. During the visit, Beijing Language and Culture University and the National Autonomous University of Mexico further advanced the establishment of the Latin American Chinese Teacher Training Center and reached an important consensus on deepening the development of the Confucius Institute and expanding inter-university cooperation.

In Peru, the delegation visited Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola, Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, and the Las Bambas Copper Mine Project operated by Chinese enterprises. The two sides focused on advancing the construction of the Peru China Research Institute and reached broad consensus on joint research, curriculum cooperation, talent cultivation, and academic exchange. The delegation also exchanged views with Chinese enterprises on cultivating “Chinese Plus” interdisciplinary talents and explored cooperation models such as “Chinese Plus Mining,” with the aim of better aligning university talent training with the needs of enterprise development.

In Ecuador, the delegation held extensive exchanges with education authorities, universities, and Chinese language education institutions. The two sides reached important consensus on incorporating Chinese language education into the national education system, developing teaching standards, cultivating local teaching staff, and establishing a China Research Institute. Beijing Language and Culture University also discussed initiatives such as “Chinese Plus International Business,” dual-degree programs, and student exchanges with partners including Universidad San Francisco de Quito and Universidad de Las Américas, further clarifying future directions for cooperation.

The visit further strengthened cooperation between Beijing Language and Culture University and universities and institutions across Latin America, advancing the development of China research institutes, the high-quality development of Confucius Institutes, and the cultivation of interdisciplinary “Chinese Plus” professionals. Taking this visit as a new starting point, the university will continue to promote the implementation of cooperative projects and contribute new momentum to educational cooperation and mutual learning between Chinese and Latin American civilizations.
