School of Humanities

  In the second half of 2014, the new School of Humanities was established under the reform of the faculty system.

  The School of Humanities, which originates from the Department of Chinese in BLCU, consists of four teaching and research offices and two research institutes: the Offices of Ancient Chinese Literature, Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature, Theory of Literature and Art, Comparative Literature and World Literature, as well as the Institutes of Comparative Literature and Culture, and Chinese Literature Creation and Research. It considers the bachelor’s degree in Chinese Language and Literature to be its core program and takes Chinese language and literature to heart. And there are four master’s and doctoral programs including Ancient Chinese Literature, Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature, Theory of Literature and Art, Comparative Literature and World Literature. Also offered are the master’s degree in Chinese history and other teaching-research programs.

  The School of Humanities’ Department of Chinese Studies has an efficient system and a competent teaching staff supported by a coherent organizational structure. Thus, in every aspect of Chinese Language and Literature, it plays a very important role at home and abroad. The master’s program of Chinese History has a long history and has developed an expertise in Sino-foreign cultural exchange, Confucian philosophy, ancient Chinese aesthetics, and art history, all of which have a great academic influence all over the world.

  The School of Humanities relies on Chinese language and literature to promote Chinese history. Through cultivation of new talents and self-enrichment, the School of Humanities has become a comprehensive teaching and researching unit that places at its heart literature, history and philosophy, three fundamental elements of humanism.
